A new form of virus named the Hanta virus has been spreading all across social media, being considered the “New Covid, taking us back into quarantine”. So where did this so-called “Hanta virus” come from? News stations all across the country have been stating that a cruise ship was going on an Atlantic Tour, when suddenly, three passengers had gotten ill. It has been said that the cause for this virus has been due to rodent activity, causing multiple passengers to get sick.

It has been stated that there were no rodents aboard the ship, and instead of the virus happening on the ship, a more conclusion comes from a passenger who had a prior trip and was exposed by rodents beforehand, leading the virus onto the ship, spreading it to more and more passengers.

At this point in time, three passengers have died and eighteen have been infected with the virus. The cruise ship had departed in the Canary Islands, evacuating the passengers from the ship. These passengers are currently being monitored to prevent the spread of the virus. “The virus, typically tied to rodents, may have passed from human to human aboard the MV Hondius cruise ship, the World Health Organization said,” said a CNN article, Passengers from hantavirus-hit cruise ship being monitored at US medical units.

For many people wondering, the Hanta virus isn’t just one virus but a combination of different types of viruses, living within rodents, such as mice, rats, and moles. Not only can it be transferred from rodent to rodent but also rodent to human, and if it spreads to a human, the virus can cause severe disease or even death.

This type of disease can have symptoms of the flu or a cold, but later on can drastically infect a person’s immune system, inflammation in the lungs and heart failure. As of right now, there is no cure for the virus.

Many people online have been worried about this new Virus eventually turning into the “New Covid”, leading us into another long pandemic. But, unlike Covid, this virus has a rare chance of being spread among humans. Due to the virus being transmitted through a cruise ship with a large amount of passengers and the virus living in the cruise ship with very little contact with the outside world, there is a small chance that the virus will turn into a pandemic, for many people who have been worried of their school lives being taken away from them again.
