The nation is shocked after shots were reported last night during the White House Correspondents dinner.
A man armed with a shotgun, handgun, and knives was seen rushing towards the ballroom where the event occurred before being tackled by Secret Service Agents. 31-year-old Cole Allen is currently in custody. Guests dove under tables as the President and Vice President were ushered away. A law enforcement official was shot in his bullet proof vest, but no other injuries were reported. Both the President and Vice President were uninjured during the shooting.
The Correspondents dinner is an annual gala that celebrates the press, honors journalists, and raises funds for scholarships. The dinner was held at the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington D.C. Allen is being charged with two charges related to using a firearm and assaulting an officer with a dangerous weapon. More charges are sure to be added as more information comes out.
“It’s a dangerous profession.” Trump responded when asked if he was concerned about the threats to his life.
It is reported that immediately after his arrest the suspect told law enforcement that he intended to shoot Trump Administration Officials but whether or not he was targeting the President isn’t confirmed.
