Welcome back for part 3 of this series! Last time we went over engagement found through Genshin Impact. This week’s part will go over retention in the famous game.
Retention
People come back to play the game for many reasons. Mostly because of the character banners that would come back to the game that players had missed, or new add-ons to the world, or a new minigame was added. Genshin adds a new update to the game every 6 weeks or 42 days. Each version update possibly contains multiple bug fixes, new banners, mi nigames, more storylines, or world add-ons. There may be many reasons why a player returns, let’s look into someone’s article on why they may want and not want to return.
According to Sydne Kye in her article “Why am I so determined to get back into Genshin Impact?” on the MoonPie Sanctuary website, “I enjoyed roaming the world, and I thought the character designs were beautiful. I think I just don’t want to miss out on the new characters and regions…”, she talks about how the world and characters were “beautiful” and how she wouldn’t like missing out on the updates. “And I really want to know the lore of the lands and the story of the characters, but I just can’t sit through reading a light novel to get the information…”, she continues to say that the storyline is interesting to her but it takes a lot to figure out because of the dialogue. I agree, the dialogue does take a lot and there is a lot of lore to learn. As the lore is interesting, it is very heavy.
Personally, I love the game. I also like to return to the idea of a mystical world with characters but it does take a lot of storage as it is a huge game. Being updated on all the new things is a lot to keep up with since I started playing, along with the new parts of the world that look wonderful. The many new banners do look interesting and make me want to return. For me, new banners are the main reason I play every once in a while. The reruns of banners I missed just attract me to play once again too.
In the picture, you will find the banner of the two characters, Hu Tao and Yelan, which would end up making a lot of Genshins revenue. Multiple players enjoyed the idea of the characters, so much so that they returned to play and made it their goal to collect them. So much money was made off of her banner that it was surprising. So, as players return, they may also end up investing in the game.
Come back next week to read the final part on monetization in Genshin Impact.

True I always come back for the new characters. It’s very addicting and heavily monetized.
