Taking over a volleyball program at a new school after only a month can be both exciting and challenging. Coach Francis Martinez experienced this firsthand when she stepped into the head coaching position. Although the transition may seem difficult to many people, Coach Martinez explained it was not as hard as expected because she already had experience as a head coach before coming to the school from her previous job.

The atmosphere at the new school was very different from the environment at her former school, and adapting to a new community always takes time. Learning how the players interacted, understanding the school culture, and earning respect from both students and staff were important parts of her first month. However, she also mentioned that having support from welcoming people around the program helped her settle into her new role much faster. Being welcomed with open arms gave her confidence and made the adjustment process smoother.
Coach Martinez already has high expectations for the volleyball program. She believes in setting goals and pushing the team to succeed.
She says “My plans are to get a championship banner to put in the gym and also get championship rings.”
Her goals show that she is committed to building a successful program and creating a winning culture for the school. Beyond winning games, she also wants to create long-term success and continue coaching at the school for as long as she is needed and wanted.
Although Coach Martinez has already accomplished many goals in her career, she believes there is still more to achieve. Her passion for coaching remains strong, and she shared that she does not see herself retiring anytime soon. Her dedication, leadership, and determination are qualities that can inspire her athletes both on and off the court. After only one month at the school, Coach Martinez has already shown that she is focused on building relationships, creating success, and leading the volleyball program toward a bright future. This year will be her 4th almost 5th year coaching at Hawkins and each year has led the girls volleyball team to playoffs every year along her side this year was her daughter coach Martinez taking over as head coach for the girls. Lastly Coach Francis is most known for her catchphrase Play With Your Heart!!
