Owning a cat is a wonderful thing to have as a company, if you are the type of person who likes little small furry fellas, like dogs and guinea pigs. I own 3 cats of my own, along with 2 dogs, and after dealing with 1 cat for 3 years and the other 2 cats for 2 years, I have gotten some of the basic knowledge when it comes to taking care of cats.

Feeding Cats

When it comes to feeding cats, it becomes very difficult when it comes to figuring out what food a cat needs. Many videos on social media tell you different things on whether a certain type of food is either good or bad for the cat. I had a difficult time when it came to figuring out the best food for them. The type of food that I usually give my cats are the canned fancy feast wet food and the Purina Pro Plan kibble.

In my opinion, these were the best options to choose because I had gotten some help from other cat owners in my family. My family changed around the food a couple of times before we finally stuck to those food brands. I believe these are a good type of brand for cats as there have been many cat owners who favor these types of brands too.

When it comes to the time I feed my cats, I feed them 3 times a day: 7:00 am, 3:00 pm, and 11:00 pm. These times all have an 8 hour difference between them and it also allows my cats to not be hungry all of the time. Although I feed my cats within these time frames, I tend to give them around a tablespoon because I don’t want to get my cats so fat by feeding them a full cat bowl of kibble. When feeding a cat, it’s better to feed them 2-3 times a day, almost like a human. The cat may be a small creature yet it does have a big appetite.

Attention

Cats vary when it comes to attention. Some cats would want you to pet them all over their body, rubbing themselves over you, and even cuddle up with you, but other cats are all cold and it seems like they don’t acknowledge you at all. My cats are the cuddly, touchy type. Whenever I’ve fallen asleep, I have woken up to one of my cats laying right on my lap. My cats tend to come next to me, lay down near me, and fall asleep. It is important to give your cats attention, even if they seem like they don’t want it.

I have never ignored my cats for long periods of time as they need a lot of attention, just like dogs. If you would give dogs attention, why not give a cat the same attention too? My cats crave my attention, coming up to me and meowing so loud until I pet them or hug them. Cats will verbally tell you they want attention, and you should always give it to them. I love petting my cats and showing the love they deserve (I just love animals).

Why Having Two Cats is Better Than One

This is a major thing that people are a little iffy about when getting a cat. Most people tend to get one cat for their house, and just leave them around. This action tends to make the cat lonely and bored, laying around and sleeping all day. Even if you get your cat all the toys in the world and they play with it for some time, they will still get bored afterwards as they don’t have the fun they need. Having two cats is better because when you leave a cat alone at home, instead of one cat being bored all alone at home, they would play around with their other playmate, running around and even laying down together. Having two cats makes sure your first cat doesn’t get bored at home.

In my case, I only had one cat, Salem, for a year until my cat gave birth to her two kittens, who I still have with me now. My cat was so bored until her kitties came along, where she would groom them, play with them, and take care of them. Afterwards, She was rarely bored as she always plays around with her kitties. The moment the kitties came into Salem’s life, she was more active and playful, showing that all she needed was another cat in her life. Now that my kittens are older, Salem still plays around with them, cuddling up with them, and still treating the cats as if they were still itty bitty kitties.
