F1: The Movie
Directed by: Joseph Kosinski
Written by: Ehren Kruger
F1 follows the story of a retired Formula 1 driver Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) whose career ended when a devastating crash occurred in the 1990s. Now decades later, we find his old friend and team owner Ruban Cervantes (Javier Bardem) reuniting with Sonny and asking him to return to F1 and race for his struggling team that is on the brink of shutting down
To start, this is a film that will keep your heart racing when the moment is meant to and really makes you feel like you are in the cockpit of the car itself. The drama, the tension, the action this film has a lot and it is a ride that I believe makes this film as great as the Grand Prix races itself. The drama between these characters really does make you feel for them and what they are going through throughout this film. Brad Pitt and Dasmon Idris (who plays the teammate of Sonny Hayes) play their roles tremendously and feel the passion almost as if they were the racers themselves going through their struggles. Dasmon who plays this character named Joshua Pierce is a hot shot young rookie who believes Sonny is an old washed up driver who believes he won’t bring anything to the table to help the team. The chemistry between both of these guys just feels so natural and really brings the film to life which gives it that extra boost in making this film the best it could possibly be. Not to mention the cinematography this film brings, while filming at the real Grand Prix locations, the racing scenes in the film feel very authentic and makes this movie stand out beautifully almost like you are at the race itself. Not only did they film at the real location but also used these modified cars that look identical to the F1 cars we all know and love with this really unique camera work that just takes this film to the next level, not just filming the car itself but filming what it feels like to be inside of the car. Now what a racing film without the sounds of awesome sounding cars and all of those beautiful engine sounds. The sound and even the score of this film really does make this film sound huge, loud, and aggressive with all these cars that are in front of you and with it being a large amount of the film, this film should be experienced with the best sound possible whether that comes to using headphones or you very own surround sound system at home. The score of this film (made by the infamous Hand Zimmer) really is the cherry on top with this film bringing us this Hopeful, optimistic, and inspiring score that really makes you feel like there is a chance and hope which fits perfectly with the tone and story of this film.
This underdog film really is a ride I feel you or anyone should experience on the best and biggest audio and screen if possible even if you’re not a fan of cars or racing in general. The story and drama this film brings I feel makes this film suitable for anyone. I would rate this film a 10/10. I feel like there are no flaws in this film and just does everything right, the acting, the cinematography, the sound everything is just perfect for this film.
