Kasey Hernandez, Reporter

Kasey Hernandez is a junior who is graduating in 2027. She is an observant, friendly and respectful person. Some things Kasey enjoys are reading, going on walks and painting (even though she’s not the best). She loves hanging out and laughing with her friends. Kasey is a member of the Academic Decathlon and hopes to join another club, maybe robotics, very soon. Before the school year ends she hopes to achieve many things like improve her overall GPA and be more involved. Another thing she is hoping to do this year is branch out by becoming more social. After high school Kasey hopes to pursue a career in nursing.

Carmen Gomez, Photographer

Carmen Gomez is a 16 year old student who is in her junior year, class of 2027. Since being a student at Aaugutus F. Hawkins High School, she is currently in her third year of playing volleyball and she has been on varsity since her freshman year. Carmen spends her free time shopping, baking/cooking, spending time with family, and traveling wherever her sister wants to go. She recently traveled to Portland, Oregon to visit her brother. After graduating high school, she wants to become an Ultrasound technician. When she’s not playing volleyball, you can find her exploring the campus or sitting in the gym.

Vanessa Morales, Photographer

Vanessa is a student who is taking Journalism 1 and soon moving onto Journalism 2! She is someone who is currently doing BTC(Behind the scene) for our school news. She likes to take photos of anything, such as people, scenery, plants, items, and random things as well. This student may be someone who is shy and may be seen with a plush in hand, but she’s really kind and friendly. This student also is someone who likes to draw both on paper and on screen and usually strays from her surroundings when she is drawing most of her time.

Emanuel Hernandez, Photographer

Emanuel Hernandez is a sophomore who is part of the class of 2028. He is always trying to be a better person, especially when he talks to people without a filter, he know he can hurt their feelings. He thinks that we all came to this world because we have a purpose and he tries his best to always find his purpose in life. After graduating from Augustus F. Hawkins High School, he wants to be an electrician, and he will try his best to achieve his goals.

London Scott, Editor

Zyearie Scott is a junior and will be graduating in 2027. She also likes to go by the name “London”. She likes fashion designing, making new friends, and trying new things. Her hobbies include reading, buying new bows to wear, running routes for flag football, and watching documentaries about paranormal activity, true crime, and cults. She’s also very talented when it comes to graphic design, she has designed all of her family’s business flyers, business cards, and party invitations. She hopes that she’ll be going to FIT for fashion design and graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and Design.

Amirah Kennedy, Behind the scenes Photographer/ Video Editor

Amirah Kennedy is a Senior at Hawkins High School, Class of 2026. She participates in flag football and basketball. She also helps her community outside of school by volunteering to her community. She also participates in a drill team in Watts ,CA. She mainly do these activities, because she wants to be an inspiration to the children in her neighborhood so they can understand how someone who looks like them can do amazing things and become an amazing person.

Fernando Paniagua, Video Editor

Fernando Paniagua attends Augustus F. Hawkins High School in Los, Angeles (CA) as an 11th grader (Class of 2026). He is a student-athlete who has played two years of football and two years of track and field. He enjoys track, but it’s part of the football training program. Besides sports, Fernando also loves playing video games with friends. He is not exactly sure which college he’ll attend, but he would like to attain a degree in kinesiology.

Adonay Ayala

Adonay is a young man from El Salvador who enjoys sports a lot, especially soccer and basketball, because they help him stay active and clear his minds. one of his favorite places is the gym, since there he can train, improve himself and feel better every day. He also loves pizza, Hamburguesas specifi IN_OUT, that food he enjoys in his free time. He has five siblings and is the youngest of all, which makes him feel very protected and United to his family. Adonay is characterized by being a very friendly and loving person, someone who always tries to support others and maitain good relationships with those around him. He always seeks to grow as a person, while enjoying the things he likes most in life.

Destiny Tatum, Photographer

Destiny is a student here who has already been in Journalism 1! Their role was a director, sound manager and script writer. It was a hard job to get done, but they loved doing it knowing they could help people gain confidence to speak or be on air talent. Destiny likes to take photos for photography, photos like wildlife, scenic places, people, etc. They like it so much that they want to major in Photography! Destiny’s hobbies consist of everything creative: crafting, digital art, traditional art and they want to start trying airbrush. They are inspired by their friends in life who help them create things, such as new characters and ideas. They think that their friends are very important in their life.

Jose Ramos, Photographer

José Ramos is a 17-year-old senior (Class of 2026). He was born and raised in Mexico and emigrated to the United States at the age of 13. Since then, he has always been a competitive person who strives to achieve strong results in everything he does. He likes to maintain a serious mindset instead of wasting time, and when he truly cares about something, he is willing to help others in any way he can. He enjoys working independently but also feels comfortable collaborating in small groups.

Sofia Ruiz, Photographer

Sofia Ruiz is in her senior year and is ready to take on the challenge of learning new things everyday. One of her many goals in life is to become one of the very first Mexican Women director to win a Oscar. Her hobbies are watching movies with family, trying new crafts, and learning to bake different pastries for her friends. Her favorite color is dark purple, her current favorite movie is Spirited Away, a Studio Ghibli film, and her favorite album is Salad Days by Mac Demarco.

Samantha Simmons-Young

This is Samantha and she is currently a junior at Augustus F. Hawkins High; she will be graduating as the class of 2026.Samantha likes to watch anime a lot,especially romance anime; it’s a way to pass time.Some of her favorites are pastel colors, puppies, and plushies, specifically sanrio but she loves them all.Her favorite artists are Lauryn Hill,Cleo Sol,India Arie. She has a strong passion for fashion and clothes, and she loves to dress up. Her favorite subject in school is Visual Art.She’s also in love with nature; she finds peace in both.

Bryan Diaz, Photographer

Bryan (Class of 2026), uses his love of learning and his ability to adapt to excel in his studies. His future goal is to be an Engineer. Apart from academics, Bryan enjoys music, nature, and sleep.

Noe Gonzalez

Noe Gonzalez Class of 2026 17 years old is a senior in Augustus Hawkins high school. He was born on June 28 2008 and moved to LA almost 4 years ago. He is the youngest out of four siblings He’s more on the introverted side. and he plans to go to college after high school still unsure what he wants to do, his hobbies are playing soccer and playing video games and anime, he also enjoys spending his free time with nature and friends, especially at night.

David Melgar, News management

David is a junior and he graduates in 2026. He likes to watch shows like Better Call Saul, Mr.robot, and he also likes to eat hot chips. He also plans to go to college but isn’t sure where yet. A lot of the time you’ll catch him just watching videos or with a friend. One of his life goals is to own multiple businesses and travel a lot.
