Our Goal

Hailey Pena, web editor
Hailey was born on April 3,2008. She is currently a junior at Hawkins. She is class of 2026. This is her first year taking journalism. After graduating high school, she wants to study the career of nursing. She loves doing her makeup that’s why she would also like to take a course to be a MUA ( Make-Up Artist). Hailey likes going out with her friends and enjoys shopping. In the future, she would like to travel a lot more. Hailey loves taking pictures because she can look back at the memories and cherish them forever.
Katherine is a senior. She will graduate as of the class of 2026. She was born in El Salvador, She speaks both English and spanish, She really likes writing, It helps her understand her thoughts and herself. She loves music, she likes to sing and think of the meaning behind the lyrics , She also has also been really good at English since 8th ,She also enjoys being in her house she doesn’t really like to go outside as much. She loves to travel to places such as oregon which she loved, she would also prefer to live there if she ever got the chance.
Zhair Muschamp, Editor and Chief
Zhair Muschamp is an energetic student at Augustus Hawkins High School, where he’s making his mark and gearing up to graduate in 2026. With a passion for sports, he not only shines on the football field but also excels in track and field competitions. When he’s not competing, Zhair enjoys lifting weights to keep himself strong and focused. While he’s still exploring his options for college, one thing is clear: Zhair is determined to pursue a future in mechanical engineering.

She is a 17 year-old high school senior on track to graduate in 2025. She finds comfort listening to music and companionship with animals. From a young age animals have always held a special place in her heart, inspiring her to pursue a career as a veterinarian. She’s committed in fulfilling her lifelong vision and achieving a veterinary degree with honors to have a positive impact on the lives, well being, and behavior of animals in need.
Jenny Figueroa, Public Relations Manager, On Air Talent
Jenny is a senior at Hawkins High School. She is a very calm, spirited person who loves going out with friends and seeing nature. Jenny likes going to cafes and the beach. She’s also likes to read in her spare time and enjoys the warm seasons the most. She wants to major in Journalism and Public Relations to be able to work in Sports Media and hopes to one day travel the world.
Osvaldo “Ozzy” Hernandez, Photographer
I am going to be graduating in with the class of 2025. I am one of the scriptwriters for Hawkins High school. I am also a photographer for Journalism room 224. In my free time or part time I am a barber, and a student athlete participating in football, basketball, and volleyball. I am eager to be a photoghrapher due to thos photos either making people or things look good with the most detail possible. Similar to photography barbering is also a passion I have due to it also making a person look as good as possible and it amazed me how much of a difference I can make on someone’s life as a confidence booster.

Delphine Baba, a 15 year old junior who will graduate from Hawkins HS in 2026. She has a lot of hobbies including but not limited to skating, drawing, and playing games such as Overwatch and Mortal Kombat. Her favorite color is yellow and she hasn’t taken a journalism class before, however she is very excited because journaling is also one of the activities she enjoys doing. She hopes to one day become something amazing by attending UCLA and getting a good job as a software engineer.
Jamie “JT” Mena, On Air Talent, Photographer, Journalist, Reporter
Here’s a little intoduction about Jamie Mena. Jamie has truly excelled as the On-Air Talent for the weekly and homeroom announcements, elevating it to an art form that will be difficult for future Hawk anchors to match. Set to graduate in the class of 2025, Jamie is a young Black man with a promising future. He was apart of the 1st Journalism class to be indicted into the Quill and Scroll society at Hawkins High. He’s a student athlete and proactive member in his community but besides being a student athlete and proactive member he’s the CEO of an upcoming fashion brand named So Smoove Apparel created in 2024. A brand built off his confidence in his work and his self confidence as a whole, aside from that he also follows in the footsteps of several of his uncles as he aspires to join the Army. Jamie has had rough patches in the past but he prevailed and is often described by teachers and classmates as inspiring, proactive, and a well-rounded individual destined for success. Jamie exudes self-confidence in all his endeavors and also uses his ability to infuse his peers with energy and laughter serves as a source of personal joy and motivation for others. While he’s not in front of the camera he’s also good behind the camera as he takes photographs of different scenes to perfect his craft both off and on camera. Although this is only a introduction to who Jamie “JT” is but overall Jamie is a young individual that will not only be remembered by his abilities but all his work in the community.
Fernando Paniagua, Video Editor
Fernando Paniagua attends Augustus F. Hawkins High School in Los, Angeles (CA) as an 11th grader (Class of 2026). He is a student-athlete who has played two years of football and two years of track and field. He enjoys track, but it’s part of the football training program. Besides sports, Fernando also loves playing video games with friends. He is not exactly sure which college he’ll attend, but he would like to attain a degree in kinesiology.

Kimmorra Green is in the class of 2026. She knows that, “Some people don’t trust the news but let me tell you I’m the news and I’m going to bring you the tea on sports etc.” She is also going to tell you about what it is like at Augustus F. Hawkins, the pros and the cons. She can’t wait to get started.
Tyler Muro, Report
Tyler is a senior at Augustus Hawkins High School (Class of 2025). He grew up with photography so he is very passionate about it. He attends youth groups after school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. He likes listening to any kind of music (just not country) and playing video games at home. He also likes going out and connecting with nature. He has a future planned out. Tyler is set to leave for the Navy after he graduates. Tyler is the second generation to graduate from Hawkins; his brother from RISE and sister from CHAS, both graduated in 2016. Tyler is a person who lives day by day, he doesn’t stress about the past or the future because, “it’s out of our control, instead, enjoy every moment with family and friends.”
Luis Fuentes, podcaster
Journalism was always fun and I enjoyed taking photos and it taught me a great deal about cameras and how to take photographs. Also I felt like journalism brought out the creativity I didn’t know I had. In addition, I felt that what I learned about broadcasting might make for a great a career, because I want to have my own podcast about sports. Class of 2025
David Melgar, News management
David is a junior and he graduates in 2026. He likes to watch shows like Better Call Saul, Mr.robot, and he also likes to eat hot chips. He also plans to go to college but isn’t sure where yet. A lot of the time you’ll catch him just watching videos or with a friend. One of his life goals is to own multiple businesses and travel a lot.

Mateo Juarez, a senior (class of 2026) at Augustus F. Hawkins High School, is known for his adaptability in navigating situations that may feel uncomfortable to others. Passionate about personal growth, he consistently works on enhancing his communication skills. A nature enthusiast, Mateo enjoys spending time outdoors, finding inspiration and calm in natural settings. Each semester, he makes a effort to connect with new people, strengthening the sense of community within his school.

Xariene Valtierra is a student athlete who is in her senior year at Augustus F. Hawkins High School. Xariene spends her free time playing volleyball,baking, and doing schoolwork. She aspires to go to her dream schools; Stanford, UC Berkely, UCLA, or USC to pursue a career in aerospace engineering. She’s very passionate about the work that she does and strives to do everything she puts her mind to. She knows it won’t be easy,but her goal in life is to become an engineer and/or environmental activist to help solve the pollution problem and encourage others to take care of our earth.
Kaleb Mosley, Artist
Kaleb Mosley was born on September 25, 2008 in Los Angeles, California. He had a strong liking for art ever since he was a little kid. He would draw sketches of popular cartoons at the time like Sponge Bob Square Pants and Bugs Bunny. He dreams of becoming a successful illustrator in graphic novels. His inspiration was the Marvel and DC comics, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and the Captain Underpants series.
Latrice Wright, Poet
Latrice Wright is a quiet person. She avoids speaking unless spoken to, or if she feels she has to (when no one else talks or when it’s necessary). Latrice is now a Junior in her second year of SRLA. SRLA (Students Run Los Angeles) is a non-profit organization that prepares Los Angeles students for the marathon. Although she couldn’t run the marathon last year due to an injury, she plans to get at least two marathon medals by the end of high school.
Essence Weaver, Reporter, Photographer
Essence Weaver (she/her) is a very involved person. She is a senior (class of 2025) who wants to have a fun year. Once she graduates from Hawkins HS, she wants to major in psychology and early education. She currently works at an early education center. She is also a manager for the boys basketball team and boys football team. She pushes herself to be the best and to do well in all her classes. Although she struggles with home situations, she still manages to show up and put smiles on people’s faces. Essence is very friendly and fun to be around. She is caring, loving, and independent.
Rihanna A. Stewart, Photographer, Producer
Rihanna Stewart (she/her), class of 2025, has four older siblings and a lot of bonus siblings. She is the youngest of all the children. For the Hawkins High School basketball team she plays all the positions, “We all switch off, just in case one person isn’t there.” She is also the quarterback of the flag football team. In the journalism class, she is a photographer and one of the producers of the weekly news. She loves to watch horror movies, “I like all of them. If we go on Netflix right now I will watch all of them.” She says they don’t give her nightmares because she knows they are not real and God is protecting her. She is a member of the Hawkins BSU which stands for Black Student union. Rihanna considers herself very helpful when she is asked to do something.

Cesar Serrano(He/Him) goes to Augustus F. Hawkins High School and is part of the class of 2025. He likes to listen to music and play video games in his free time. He has a passion for photography. Cesar’s dream school is UC Santa Cruz and wants to major in psychology and become a psychiatrist.

Amber Lerma-Dominguez, who is in her Senior year Class of 2026 who enjoys playing video-games, listening to music, sleeping, and skating in her backyard. She doesn’t like loud noises but the exception is music blasting in her ears, especially when shes walking to the store or just going out from time to time. She loves procrastinating which is going to catch up to her one day but she still gets her work turned in.

Yahairy Mejia is a 17-year-old and in the class of 2026. She plans to attend UCLA or UC Irvine after graduation to major in criminology get her masters and plans to work as a detective . She is a senior at Augustus F. Hawkins High School and plans to work hard to achieve her goals. She’s great in history and science. She plans to join a few things this year such as sports and clubs. She enjoys playing many instruments, such as the Guitar, Violin, and the Drums she loves music and spending quality time with her friends, peers and loved ones.
Cristal Ilean Lizardo Nunez, Reporter
Cristal lean Lizardo Nunez is in her junior year of high school at Augustus Hawkins High School, she enjoys listening to music. Most people think music distracts students from learning and doing work, but Cristal focuses more when she’s listening to music. I mean yeah she can hear better without them but the music calms her down and helps her get her work done faster. So she just lowers the music when someone is talking. A lot of teachers don’t allow headphones, in sophomore year one of Cristals teachers even said wearing headphones was seen as a form of disrespect or it was disrespectful. Although she didn’t find it disrespectful since all she’s doing is listening to music to help her focus. She still understood where he was coming from because sometimes people do use them to ignore people.
This is Samantha and she is currently a junior at Augustus F. Hawkins High; she will be graduating as the class of 2026.Samantha likes to watch anime a lot,especially romance anime; it’s a way to pass time.Some of her favorites are pastel colors, puppies, and plushies, specifically sanrio but she loves them all.Her favorite artists are Lauryn Hill,Cleo Sol,India Arie. She has a strong passion for fashion and clothes, and she loves to dress up. Her favorite subject in school is Visual Art.She’s also in love with nature; she finds peace in both.

Alexandra Gutierrez is a high school senior (class of 2025) at Augustus F. Hawkins High School in Los Angeles. She is currently doing well in all her academic classes. She is part of the journalism team working as a newspaper editor and photographer. Alexandra has her goal set on attending college after high school. After college, she wants to do either business marketing or computer science.
