Five generations of family show up to support Tyler Cleveland on senior night as Hawkins’ football gifts the school one more win, 38 to 6 against the Locke HS Saints.
Tyler’s great-grandmother, Donetta Chester, stood proudly with her granddaughter, who just so happened to be Tyler’s mom. Both were all smiles as this was Hawkins High School’s fifth consecutive home game win. The family members were originally spotted sitting in front of Jamarieah Wallace’s senior sign.
“That’s OK,” Chester said,” We are here to support the whole team, but my great-grandson is Tyler Cleveland.”
Though it was a chilly night, Tyler’s 81-year-old great-grandmother pulled her jacket closer and said she didn’t mind because she was with her family, of which she explained to have four children (two boys and two girls) and 89 grandchildren. Nope, she did not stutter.
“I have 89 grandchildren with five great-great-grandchildren, and I am the matriarch of Augustus F. Hawkins,” Chester said.
Mrs. Chester, Tyler’s mom, and the rest of the family were all hugs and smiles through every play. And it was really special that tonight was another win for the Hawkins Football Team. According to MaxPreps, Hawkins has an overall record of 7-2, and of that, their home game record is 5-0. It’s been an exciting year to watch Hawkins High School Football. Friday’s senior night included football, cheer, and the Hawkettes dance squad. Go Hawks!
