The celebration, organized by the school’s PSA Counselor (Pupil Service and Attendance), marked the importance of student attendance and staying connected with the campus community. The event kicked off in front of the school campus, where students were greeted with giant green hands, waving them in a lively and welcoming sight that energized the morning.
Throughout the day, teachers, campus staff, and students reflected on the significance of showing up and being part of the school community. At lunchtime, our PSA , Ms. Pam rewarded students who had perfect attendance with Smarties candies. The gesture highlighted the school’s efforts to recognize and encourage students for their commitment to learning.
Campus aides also expressed their pride in students for making it to school and participating in the celebration. Teachers and students interviewed spoke about how the event lifted spirits and motivated them to continue strong through the school year. One student noted, “It makes coming to school feel special, like we’re part of something bigger.” Photos were taken to capture the excitement, ensuring the milestone is remembered and shared across the school community.
The 25-day celebration at Augustus Hawkins High was more than just a fun moment, it was a reminder of the importance of attendance, perseverance, and school pride. With this milestone achieved, the community looks forward to building on the momentum and celebrating many more days of learning together.
The next attendance celebration (milestone day) will be the 50th day of school on Tuesday October 28th . Ms.Pam reminds everyone that the district expectation is a maximum of no more than 7 full days of absences to remain in the excellent attendance band for the whole school year. So, by the last day of school, 0-7 absences are excellent, 8-14 absences are basic, and 15 or more absences are chronic.
