In the bustling sports scene of Los Angeles, it’s easy for young athletes to get lost in the crowd. But Phil Henderson IV, a steady force for the Hawkins Hawks and member of the Class of 2025, is quietly making sure that won’t happen.
On the basketball court, Henderson is the definition of consistency. Throughout the 2024–25 season, he showcased a reliable presence for the Hawks, averaging 7.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. His field goal efficiency is a strong 43% from the floor and his ability to impact the game without forcing shots proved he’s a player who understands how to win within a team structure.
“He’s a coach’s dream,” one Hawkins assistant said. “He doesn’t play for the stat sheet. He plays to win.”
What doesn’t always show up in the box score is Henderson’s hustle diving for loose balls, rotating quickly on defense, making the extra pass. Whether it’s hitting a key three-pointer or locking down the opposing team’s best scorer, Henderson brings an old-school toughness to a fast-paced modern game. And his growth isn’t limited to just basketball.
A gifted multi-sport athlete, Henderson carries the same work ethic and competitive spirit into every arena he steps into, earning him respect from teammates and coaches alike across multiple programs. On the football field, Henderson has proven just as impactful.
During the 2024 season, he caught 21 passes for 370 yards and 3 touchdowns, showing off sure hands and explosive playmaking ability at wide receiver. In the 2023 season, he posted 7 receptions for 136 yards, demonstrating consistent growth year over year. His versatility, athleticism, and football IQ make him a constant threat on offense and a key part of Hawkins’ game plan. Adding to his impressive athletic résumé, Henderson is a standout in track and field as well. He clocked an outstanding 10.74 seconds in the 100 meters before lowering his time to a blistering 10.50 seconds, placing him among the elite sprinters in his class. In the 200 meters, he posted a swift 22.2 seconds, showing his speed holds strong over longer sprints. He also dominates in the field events, recording long jumps in the 22–23 foot range showcasing explosive lower-body power that translates across every sport he plays.
Now heading into his senior year, Henderson’s focus is sharper than ever. With leadership responsibilities increasing and opportunities opening up, he’s determined to take his game and his team to the next level. For Phil Henderson IV, the mission is simple: Earn respect. Outwork everyone. Leave a legacy at Hawkins. And if you ask anyone who’s watched him closely, they’ll tell you “he’s well on his way”.
