Hailey Pena, web editor
Hailey was born on April 3,2008. She is currently a junior at Hawkins. She is class of 2026. This is her first year taking journalism. After graduating high school, she wants to study the career of nursing. She loves doing her makeup that’s why she would also like to take a course to be a MUA ( Make-Up Artist). Hailey likes going out with her friends and enjoys shopping. In the future, she would like to travel a lot more. Hailey loves taking pictures because she can look back at the memories and cherish them forever.

Francisca Henriquez, Reporter
Francisca is a female, age 16, born on November 2, 2008 (Day of the Dead) in Los Angeles, California. She was born into a Salvadorian family. She grew up with both her parents in a small home with six siblings. Currently she is a sophomore at Augustus F. Hawkins High School and will be graduating in 2027. Francisca has two cats named Michi and Coco. What other schools has she attended? Budlong Elementary, John Muir Middle School, and now Augustus Hawkins High School. Her hobbies include drawing, listening to music, going out in nature, and playing games. Her future goals are to become a helpful nurse. She hopes to be happy and successful after high school.

Katie Garcia, Reporter
Katie Garcia a 16 year old born on February 12 (2 days before Valentine’s day). Her close family calls her “mi amor” because she was born the same week as Valentine’s Day. She grew up in a Mexican household with both her parents; Katie the only daughter in her family with three older brothers. She is currently a sophomore (class of 2027) at Augustus F. Hawkins High School in Los Angeles. She enjoys music, hanging out with friends and family and likes going out. In the future, she wants to be an ultrasound technician.

Jenny Figueroa, Public Relations Manager
Jenny is a senior at Hawkins High School. She is a very calm, spirited person who loves going out with friends and seeing nature. Jenny likes going to cafes and the beach. She’s also likes to read in her spare time and enjoys the warm seasons the most. She wants to major in Journalism and Public Relations to be able to work in Sports Media and hopes to one day travel the world.

Destiny Tatum, Photographer
Destiny Tatum is a determined student. They really enjoy taking photos of the outside world and sometimes the inside. They strive to do art in other ways than just photography, like digital art, traditional art, airbrush, crafting and in a lot of other ways you can think of. Destiny finds inspiration from online and indie media! It’s a pleasure for them to be a journalist and photographer.

Osvaldo “Ozzy” Hernandez, Photographer
I am going to be graduating in with the class of 2025. I am one of the scriptwriters for Hawkins High school. I am also a photographer for Journalism room 224. In my free time or part time I am a barber, and a student athlete participating in football, basketball, and volleyball. I am eager to be a photoghrapher due to thos photos either making people or things look good with the most detail possible. Similar to photography barbering is also a passion I have due to it also making a person look as good as possible and it amazed me how much of a difference I can make on someone’s life as a confidence booster.

Miracle is currently a junior who came from Dorsey and enrolled into Hawkins High School in Spring 2025. Next year she will be a senior, class of 2026. After graduating high school she plans on becoming a pediatrician, a doctor for babies. Miracle’s desire is to finish off high school strong and to achieve her goals by working hard. She plans on joining cheer again during her senior year; she really enjoys cheerleading, excels in Algebra and she loves writing.

Jaida Stampley, photographer
Jaida Stampley is a photographer for Advocate News and in her free time she works on her collage portfolio for industrial design. As an Advocate News photographer she takes pictures of school events, class events or scenery photos around school campus, set to graduate in 2025 and attend a community college before moving to Academy of Arts where she will pursue her dreams.

Anaiya McKinley, Photographer
Anaiya McKinley is a high school senior (class of 2025) at Augustus F. Hawkins in Los Angeles. She enjoys reading and crocheting hats, baby blankets, and purses. Anaiya is currently in journalism and yearbook. She has her goal set on attending UC Davis after high school to become a veterinarian.

Fernando Paniagua, Video Editor
Fernando Paniagua attends Augustus F. Hawkins High School in Los, Angeles (CA) as an 11th grader (Class of 2026). He is a student-athlete who has played two years of football and two years of track and field. He enjoys track, but it’s part of the football training program. Besides sports, Fernando also loves playing video games with friends. He is not exactly sure which college he’ll attend, but he would like to attain a degree in kinesiology.

Journalism was always fun and I enjoyed taking photos and it taught me a great deal about cameras and how to take photographs. Also I felt like journalism brought out the creativity I didn’t know I had. In addition, I felt that what I learned about broadcasting might make for a great a career, because I want to have my own podcast about sports. Class of 2025

Caterin D. Ramos, photographer
Caterin is 16 years old and this is her first year at Augustus F. Hawkins High School. She is set to graduate class of 2026 . Real estate and cosmetology are what she hopes to do in the future . Caterin is the middle has four siblings making her the middle child. She loves heembeezy meaning she enjoys to listen to music . she’s an Aquarius and was born the day before Valentines .

Jamie “JT” Mena, On Air Talent, Photographer, Journalist, Reporter
Here’s a little intoduction about Jamie Mena. Jamie has truly excelled as the On-Air Talent for the weekly and homeroom announcements, elevating it to an art form that will be difficult for future Hawk anchors to match. Set to graduate in the class of 2025, Jamie is a young Black man with a promising future. He was apart of the 1st Journalism class to be indicted into the Quill and Scroll society at Hawkins High. He’s a student athlete and proactive member in his community but besides being a student athlete and proactive member he’s the CEO of an upcoming fashion brand named So Smoove Apparel created in 2024. A brand built off his confidence in his work and his self confidence as a whole, aside from that he also follows in the footsteps of several of his uncles as he aspires to join the Army. Jamie has had rough patches in the past but he prevailed and is often described by teachers and classmates as inspiring, proactive, and a well-rounded individual destined for success. Jamie exudes self-confidence in all his endeavors and also uses his ability to infuse his peers with energy and laughter serves as a source of personal joy and motivation for others. While he’s not in front of the camera he’s also good behind the camera as he takes photographs of different scenes to perfect his craft both off and on camera. Although this is only a introduction to who Jamie “JT” is but overall Jamie is a young individual that will not only be remembered by his abilities but all his work in the community.

Mateo Juarez, reporter
Mateo Juarez, a junior (class of 2026) at Augustus F. Hawkins High School, is known for his adaptability in navigating situations that may feel uncomfortable to others. Passionate about personal growth, he consistently works on enhancing his communication skills. A nature enthusiast, Mateo enjoys spending time outdoors, finding inspiration and calm in natural settings. Each semester, he makes a effort to connect with new people, strengthening the sense of community within his school.

Xariene Valtierra, Photographer
Xariene Valtierra is a student athlete who is in her junior year at Augustus F. Hawkins High School. Xariene spends her free time playing volleyball,baking, and doing schoolwork. She aspires to go to her dream schools; Upenn,UCBerkely,UCLA, or USC to persue a career in chemical engineering. Shes very passionate about the work that she does and strives to do everything she puts her mind to. She knows it wont be easy,but her goal in life is to become an engineer and enviornmental activist to help solve the pollution problem and encourage others to take care of our earth.

Alexander Zelaya, Photographer
Alexander Zelaya (He/Him) is a highly motivated and positive student at Augustus F. Hawkins High School. He is a senior in the class of 2025 and after high school he plans on attending CSUDH and majoring in business. In his free time he likes biking around Los Angeles with friends.

Desmaj E. Murphy, photographer, reporter
Desmaj Murphy, class of 2026. Rumor has it that he has two Division 1 college offers, Fresno State and Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU). Considering the former basketball captain has left, it will be exciting to see how Hawkins does during this basketball season. Desmaj says, “I have high expectations from the school’s new captain to lead Hawkins to their first championship.” Besides sports, Desmaj has some good leadership skills. He looks forward to what his future holds and what moves he can bring to Hawkins, maybe even a league banner for the second time in Hawkins’ history. “That would also be nice!” Desmaj said.
