Bullying is a terrible thing and a terrible feeling. Bullying can lead to self harm, social and emotional distress, long term damage to self esteem, increase risk for depression anxiety, sleep difficulties, lower academic achievement, dropping out of school, suicide, and death.
According to CBS news, “Nate B was enrolled in a private school where there was a no bullying policy but there was bullying going on online involving a student Nate B and his classmates. In the past, Nate mentioned the bullying to his parents so they were aware of what was going on in the past but they weren‘t aware of the current bullying that was going on. Nate’s parents said they repeatedly told the Administrators about the bullying but the Administrators said they had no idea about what was going on. Some time after Nate’s parents found Nate in the bathroom unalive because he hung himself. Nate’s parents thought that if they knew about the messages and did something about it then they could’ve saved Nate and he would still be alive.”
This is important because it shows that bullying has a significant psychological, emotional and social impact on individuals. Bullying can lead to feelings of isolation, anxiety, depression, and in severe cases suicidal thoughts. The reach of the internet can make it more persuasive and harder to escape. This proves that bullying can take a toll on someone’s mental health and make them not want to be here anymore.
No one should want to make anyone want to feel like that, especially if someone is going through a lot. Picking with people can cause emotional damage or something worse. People want to be treated fairly but some people do not treat others nicely, but they want people to respect them when they are the ones who are disrespectful. Some bullies pick with people because they want attention, they go through things themselves and they pick with others to make themselves feel better, or some do it just to keep friends. You never truly know what someone is going through until it’s too late. That is why everyone should always be aware and should try to be understanding of others feelings, even checking up on someone can make them feel better and make them feel cared for.
